The 3rd edition of the Trinational HealthTech Days took place last week in Basel and brought together many participants for inspiring sessions and networking sessions. The event offered insights from health tech entrepreneurs and investors on the life science innovation ecosystem in Europe, a better understanding of how VCs and companies are working with startups to improve their chances of success, and the opportunity to network with international startups as well as connect with VCs.

 

In the session “How Corporates can benefit from Start-Ups” Bastian explained the venture building with NOVAZOON and reported, among other things, about the recent cooperation with the University Hospital Heidelberg and the resulting health-tech spin-off MAEX Medical Care GmbH. Afterwards, a large number of discussions and exchanges of experience were held – all of them at top international level.

As an independent venture builder, NOVAZOON offers access to a broad network as well as a world-class and execution-driven innovation and deep tech team.

Choosing the right technology as a success factor

We live in a technologically faster changing world. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the development and deployment of new technologies. Whereas before there was only a small choice of technologies to solve a specific challenge, now there are many different deployable technologies and solutions.

When starting new projects, companies are faced with the choice of which of the available technologies can provide the best solution.

Often, already known technologies are used without seeking comparison with state-of-the-art IT applications. This can lead to the use of outdated or non-optimal solutions and thus to frustration among project managers, users and stakeholders.

Even with sound and well-considered decisions, it is possible that new technologies will be released on the market during the project period that are better suited for use in the project than the technology previously used.

At NOVAZOON, we address this technology dilemma as part of our Innovation & Technology Lab, where we keep up to date, regularly scrutinize the technologies we use, and replace them if necessary – if that makes sense for business or technological reasons.

Bastian was a guest last week at THE industry festival of Germany, Industry.Forward Expo 2022, with the session “BMI with Purpose and Stubbornness”.

An inspiring format with high-quality programming from the industry for the industry!
In his keynote speech, Bastian Deck shared his experiences, approaches, methods, fails and learnings from over 30 business model transformations.

The 3 main insights from last week’s talk for you:

1) Successful transformation needs stubbornness to deal with any bumps in the road.

2) Transformation needs the right method, structure, discipline and partners.

3) Corporates must open up to a new culture of innovation

Delegation trip

NOVAZOON was represented by Bastian at the delegation trip to the USA together with Baden-Württemberg international.

The trip focused on a myriad of innovation topics, particularly artificial intelligence and its role in transforming healthcare, industry and business.

We were able to take away interesting conversations and an inspiring exchange as well as insights with, among others, the world’s leading institute Carnegie Mellon University, Google, Volocopter GmH, Cyber Valley , Minister President Kretschmann, Minister of Economics Hofmeister-Kraut, Minister of Science Olschowki and many more.

Main findings of the trip:

1) Across all sectors of industry, business and healthcare, the use of AI and the resulting services that it can take to the next level is a key component. In Baden-Württemberg, we address knowledge by bundling competencies in Cybervalley under the leadership of Rebecca C. Reisch.

2) When it comes to scaling and implementing digital business models in the health tech sector in particular, even the US professionals still have to overcome a variety of challenges, e.g. in data acquisition and use as well as the sustainable commercialization of the solutions.

3) Google is pushing its involvement in healthcare extremely hard, offering a variety of services up to and including multicloud and opensource integration.
Going forward, the California-based team sees its focus on transforming away from “sick care” to “real #digital #healthcare” and the entire patient journey.

4) The ” Volocopter GmbH” gave inspiring insights, among others also into the cooperation with Microsoft. Ingenious “hardware/services” are combined with software and expanded into a platform.

 

A really great event with excellent opportunities for further collaboration, linking of topics and knowledge, and follow-up’s.
We were very pleased to be part of this delegation trip.

On 20.10.2022 we are represented with NOVAZOON at the Trinational Healthtech Days in Basel as speaker by Bastian with the session “Market access strategy for health products and country particularities” – Collaboration with Industry – invest (growth of startup)”.
Bastian will provide insights into the successful development of healthtech solutions based on cross-domain collaborations and report on the recent cooperation with the University Hospital of Freiburg.

Capgemini has acquired our partner company, Braincourt GmbH – Part of Capgemini, a specialist in business intelligence and data science services on October 7, 2022 – Braincourt will thus become part of the Capgemini Group.

NOVZAOON GmbH, headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany, remains independent and owner-managed – Prof. Armin Roth and Bastian Deck take over all shares through a management buy-out. “With the buyout of NOVAZOON, we are continuing the success story as a separate and independent company,” say Prof. Roth and Deck. “We would like to thank our Braincourt colleagues for the great collaboration and wish them all the best for their next stage with Capgemini Group.”

NOVAZOON was last published by the CIO Applications Europe magazine as one of the ten leading providers in Europe for digital business model transformation. The jury based the award in particular on the innovative methods used for transformation, the deep-tech capabilities applied, and the references of over 30 business model innovations.
